hmmm....the poll seems to be leaning towards sipadan thus far, i am really glad i asked! i appreciate all the input and will start looking into where i can still get reservations. thanks, and i look forward to hearing any more advice from you all! maybe now would be the time to ask about where i ought to stay there? i know there aren't many options, but i have gotten reports about either staying on the actual island or staying nearby, any input on this?

thanks again, i am very excited about the trip, hope i can get into sipadan now!

Since 2005 you can't stay on Sipadan, you'll have to stay either on nearby Mabul Island, Kapalai or in Semporna and then make daily boat trips to Sipadan. My visits have been prior to the regulations enforced in 05, I have only stayed on Sipadan, so I can't really reccomend a resort. But staying in Semporna is very far away. From Mabul adn Kapali it is a 15-20 minute boatride.

They are both good for different reasons.

However, given the time of year, you are more likely to have a great experience at Mabul/Kapalai/Sipadan than at the Similans, where the monsoon season makes things iffy.

Go to Sipadan this time, but do come back to dive the Similans during the dry season!
