silicone spray?

Hi all. I have read that you should apply silicon spray to knives and shears etc. Will all purpose penetrating oil work also?

Or do I use the oil to clean and the silicon to protect?

The reason I am asking is that my company has a lot of penetrating oil but we do not use silicon spray.

Don't be so cheap and get food grade silicon. A can will last a long long time. I go through a can a year on the average.

Haha. Ok. I will try to look for it.

The problem is that here in the bottom of the Philippines it is sometimes difficult to find some things that are taken for granted in more developed countries. I have looked in two shops but they do not have any, never even heard of it.

I found one supplier but he sells only wholesale by the crate. I asked him for a list of businesses he sells to so I can approach them. I'm sure I know the end user. It's a small place.

Lots of uses for Silicone spray in addition to protecting your knife and shears.
A quick spray makes removing fins very easy. I also use a quick spray down the legs and arms of my 7mm wetsuit to make it a little easier to put on.

Your going to get a double dose of Garlic So you like diving third world areas like Idaho?

Thats all we use and it works great. Take a little more sanding when they get changed but they last a lot longer. I get around 4 years on seals using it.

I almost forgot. Use the pump or liquid and not the spray cans.

Silicon is nice, and suitably hi-tech; but actually most any vegetable based oil will do; coconut, peanut, soybean, olive, anise, etc. Just try to stay away from petroleum based oils cause they stink. I've seen fish take a sniff of petroleum based oils and flat run.

Just clean, with abrasive if necessary, and lube frequently.
