I am a new diver and looking to get my kit. The Aqualung Side-X type of Regs look interesting and some what of a smart design. Are they a good buy and great to wear? Or just keep looking at the same style as all the rest?

Are there other side exhaust regulators out there?

While I never used the Side-X line, I have been diving for many years with Poseidons, the other and probably the original, side exhaust regs. Might want to look at them as well as a viable option, they offer a lot more then just side exhaust.

I have been looking into those as well but they are a little hard to figure out which one would be the best for me. Jetstream or the xstream? Just the xstream is the side exhaust right?

they are both side exhaust.....the main difference is the size, other than that they are very similar

Thanks Tamas for helping,

How do I know which is bigger or smaller? There isn't that much info on their site and are these two (Aqualung and Poseidon) the only side exhausts out there?

The pictures should speak for themselves, I think. BUT in short the Jetstream is almost 2x as large as the Xstream

Now that is a good way to get an idea of size. Awesome, Thanks.. The xstream is more of what I am looking for.

Is the xstream your main reg or do you use it for more specific dives? Or do you use that one for traveling mostly?

I live in Seattle so I will be diving in colder waters.

I actually use my Jetstream when traveling and either my Exstreams or Apeks when diving with my doubles.

Either way, they are all god...size is the only factor and the Jetstream is not that large under water. Being longer it actually moves the bubbles more away from your face. ALSO they are far cheaper - always a nice part of the decision.

I would recommend you definitely try it before you buy, in both shallow and deep(er) waters - Poseidons do not breathe or function like other regs, you will need to see if you like them and understand the functions.

Tamas,

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I will look at these a little bit more in detail and contact them. It's always great talking with others to get a better Idea of what is really what.

Being this reg will be my first (one of many more then likely), do you recommend a high quality one that will last sometime so I can get very comfortable underwater?

Thanks again for all the help... Greatly appreciate it.

A good set of regs will be around for a while....try it, and then decide if you like it. A good quality reg will be your best friend under water, might as well get something that will be suitable.....this is not an area to cheap out on.

good luck
