When I turn on my Pro Plus 2 I get the diagnostic count down and then the unit flashes ALT 5 times and shuts down. The manual says the unit will perform an immediate shutdown if activated at elevations of 14,000 ft or higher. It doesn't have any further information. I'm in Santa Monica. I have no idea of my elevation. I can't find a thing about this online. Any Help?

Don't have my dash 10 handy, but did you exceed any violation?

Also try this, if logged dives aren't crucial . . .

Take the battery out and allow it to power completely down. Insert a new, fresh battery and power it up.

Well Santa Monica is definately not 14,000 ft above MSL. You are practically right at MSL.

Suurrre, everbody else is complaining that their computer doesn't have a on/off button and yours does! :D Oh wait a minute it won't STAY on.

I'd take it back to the shop and let them mess with it....potentially returning it for a new one. A friend of ours got the same computer and on her first dive with it, it wouldn't read deeper than 15'. Fortunately, they noticed it immediately and aborted the dive. She took it back and got a new one. The shop then told her about having 2 returned the same weekend that went into lockout mode and wouldn't reset, both were returned for new ones.

Believe me, I didn't get warm fuzzies, but my husband loves his Datamax Pro Plus 2 and has had no problems with his.

Thanks for all the help!

I just contacted Oceanic about the error. They say it's a calibration issue. Since I bought it on EBAY it will cost $120 to get it repaired.

I'm trying to deal with the seller now since he listed it as NEW. Ebay has $200 buyer protection so I should come out of the deal ok. Paid $490 for the unit.

From the sound of things this is a pretty common issue. The dive shops don't do much. They all say ship it back. They say Oceanic doesn't repair anything. They just replace any RMA's they get. That's why they are such sticklers for the warranty. I wonder how many failures they get in a warranty period. My local Sport shop said it doesn't carry Oceanic gear because of all the repairs issues. I thought I was going for the solid player in the field.

The whole industry seems geared toward "Buy new with a warranty, You'll need it." Kinda spooky when you are talking about life support gear. Doesn't anybody make stuff that lasts anymore?

Ok Guys,

Riddle me this!

The computer works fine at home. It gave the error at one of the shops. At work it consistantly fails.

I work in the QA dept of a game company. I'm literally in a sea of technology there. Could something be interfereing with the unit?

Anybody ever encounter such a thing?

Try putting it into an anti-static bag and see what happens.
RF waves ???
Electromagnetic induction???

Last month My Pro Plus 2 locked up after the diagnostic countdown so I removed the battery and replaced it after about 1 minute. Did two dives afterwards with no problems. Will be diving dives 3 and 4 after the lock up tomorrow, hopefully no problems.
