I would like to thank everyone for their feed back. Living in DC or Northern Virginia, I don't dive as much as I would like to. I seam to always travel to other places for my diving. As much fun as rebreathing sounds, I think I will save my money and stay with the open circuit.

Again, thank you all for your feed back. You can find me on divebuddy.com and some of the places I have been over the years.

That seems to be a smart decision, based on your current amount of diving. CCR does take a certain level of commitment and it doesn't sound like you're able to get away and dive enough to make it an enjoyable direction to go in.

I'm thinking about taking a class for the O2ptima Rebreather. Can any one give me the ups and downs on the unit. I live in DC and go diving about two weeks out of the year. I don't know if I want to pay the expense on a rebreather. I was thinks about looking to see if anyone was selling their. Anyone has any feed back.

Todays units require a bit more dedication and I would consider the realm of the active diver...

@ Innerspace this year, one of the presenters was Mark Caney from PADI UK, he's their lead man tracking the rebreather industry and watching for 'when' the right time/unit/conditions would align for the recreational diving world to embrace rebreathers.... He gave an interesting presentation on what they were looking for from the industry to signal when the time was right.

The once a year vacationing diver is one of their scenarios... and rebreathers in the hands of the 'recreational masses' are just not up to snuff at this time...

Tim, I imagine you would concur that it's hard to imagine the once a year recreational diver ever being a good match for rebreathers, even if rebreathers became a lot more reliable and user friendly. I think they have a lot to offer the avid recreational diver who is willing to deal with the hassle for dramatic increases in NDL's or minimal deco and overall bottom time and the up close and personal encounters with marine life.

I wish the rebreather market had been where it is today 10 years ago... what i'd give to go back and do those dives over again on a rebreather, just to stay down longer!

What is stopping you? You have the breather, know where those places are and have a fresh stack and gas.....:D

sadly, while my resources have increased, I've ended up with less free time.:shakehead:

quality quantity ratio associated with the resources provided by real jobs sucks doesn't it?

YEP! though I can't complain too much, there's plenty of great diving still ahead, just wish I started diving a rebreather sooner.

Rebreathers require additional mastery due to the task loading above OC. I just a rookie with about 250 hours on 2 different units.
