Just wondering if there is any advice out there on what to do with the extra webbing on my HOG harness. If I cut it how much extra should I leave and what's the best way to cut it?

ThX

I have a Weller rope cutter type soldering gun and it does a superb job. You can also cut it with scissors and then just burn off the end with a cigarette lighter or torch.

At the moment, I am leaving a couple of harnesses several inches too long on both ends. To contain the extra webbing, I am using inner-tube bands.

If you need bands, go to a bicycle shop and get an inner-tube for a mountain bike. My local shop gave me one out of the trash. Somewhere it has a hole. I can probably slice 20 or 30 bands from that tube.

I'm waiting for the pool to get cold enough that I can wear my wetsuit. After I make the final adjustment, I will probably leave 8" on the right end of the waist belt and maybe 3 or 4" on the left. Webbing is cheap, if it doesn't work out I'll just do it over.

I did it similar to rstofer:

- tried the BP with my thickest wetsuit
- leave some 8 inches excess on the side of the buckle (to account for possible future "growth" :)
- cut such that other end extends 4 inches when thread through buckle.
- cut with large scissors, angled the corners of the free end, and burned with a lighter
- also used inner tube to secure the excess at the buckle end, and a bungee loop threaded through the keeper of my right D ring to secure the free end

I did this the same way as rstofer, leaving a little extra tucked under rubber bands to allow for different thicknesses of wet suits.

I do the same, plus leave even MORE extra...in case I ever want to sell the rig to somewhere heavier than I am!

You can cut the webbing..? :D

Leave yourself plenty for "growth"

You can also use a torch (like a small propane torch) and a crappy old sharp knife (like an old dive knife). It cuts through the webbing with precision, like a hot knife through butter ;)

With a scissors then burn edges.

Lots of ways to cut webbing, most work fine.

You will probably get a bit of practice, as most new BP&W divers "keep on trimming" as they gain confidence in the adjustment of their new gear.

Don't sweat the small stuff, webbing is cheap. $8-10 buys enough to start over.
