Most of the shore diving South of Lobos (S-O-L) is like rock climbing with poison oak mixed in for good measure. Some of the sites are Malpaso Creek, Waterfall Beach, Moby Ling Cove, Soberanes Point, and that Marine/Water quality station off of Hwy 1. The easiest entry is the Marine Station. The others mostly involve loose sandstone until you get onto the hard granite. Moby Ling Cove is typical. There are some pictures of it in my scubaboard gallery, along with some little comments. The entry is EASY at MLC. Once you get onto the granite, go as far as you can to the right, then do a giant stride into the water. The water's about 6-8 ft deep there. Climb out where I show it in my gallery.
The hikes from the highway to the water are usually in the several hundred yard range, and the terrain isn't very forgiving. At least at Waterfall beach you can rinse your gear off at the little pond near the waterfall after your dive.
Lobos Rocks is visible from most of these sites. Fantastic diving, but not a shore dive. Currents can really rip there.
