Can anyone provide any insight on the shore diving on Virgin Gorda? I recognize that the shore diving on VG is probably limited and I don't expect it to be Bonaire quality but I'm looking to find out if there are any decent locations on the island to do a shore dive or two on days when we don't go out for boat dives.

Thanks for any information.

There is some but honestly, the best shore diving in VG is actually snorkeling :)

Dive BVI is right there at Leverick and they offer good rates - they are also one of the few (I think three) shops that go to the Chikuzen regularly. You can also rent tanks and boats for the day if you want to go it alone. There are dozens of easily accessible moored dive sites within a 30 minute boat ride of the North Sound.

Ditto to what zboss said. Dive BVI is the way to go. If you get the hankering to do shore stuff, I'd recommend snorkling. There are a few spots but you should ask at the shop becuase some places you don't want to go (current). If you really want to go off on your own, they have some small boats for rent at Leverick Bay and several small beaches that are secluded with snorkling or possible shallow diving. There are also some nice places to hike and lots to see if you drive around. Just for your information if you keep following the road you will make a cirlce around the island. It's a nice route to drive if you like to sight see, explore, or take pictures.

Dive BVI is also the only shop on VG with nitrox and they also rent DPVs.

If you want to get some real good advice you could email Dive BVI. All the DMs are very helpful and can tell you all you want to know. they've been there for years.

Could you please tell me which operator you will be diving with and if possible could you provide a trip report when you get back from your trip?

I will be going to the BVI's for the third time in May and will be diving with UBS, but any info you post (sites, vis, personnel, etc,) would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sean

Sean C - Wish I could help you out before your trip but I too will be there in May. I'm planning on diving with Dive BVI. I've also heard good things about UBS. Have Fun.

UBS is great... they have a new boat they are very proud of and Kate Braun (sp?) - one of the owners - often chimes in here at SB. She's great and is very patient with new divers or divers that are having a little difficulty. They have well maintained equipment in the rental line, sherwood and genesis, I believe. All those things made life a lot easier, and the days a more fun, when my non-diving family members want to do a scuba tour.

You'll have a great time diving with them - I see their zodiac all over the place.
