Komodo National Park is a big place. It has 3 distinct regions North-Central-South. There are 3 ways to dive it, daytrips from Labuan Bajo, meaning all day out on the boat and mostly diving the North and Central region. One other option is via resorts which Scuba junkies is one of 3 that I know of. Scuba Junkies is located just outside the park boundary in the central region. The other resort I've seen is located in the central region also. It is really pricey. The other way to dive Komodo is via liveaboard which will leave out of Labjuan Bajo, Bali, or Bima depending on the boat. Liveaboards will dive all 3 regions which can be key as the south has some of what I and others consider some of the best sites in Komodo. I've done 2 trips on the Mermaid 2 which departs out of Bali and does dives outside of the park on the way and way back from Komodo. It's a great trip. After my first trip I booked another for the next year as it was so epic.
Scuba Junkies is a new resort we mostly dived the central part of the park but did make 3 trips south during my 12 days of diving there along with 1 trip North. The boat leaves around 7:30 and returns to the resort around 4 or later depending on where they went for the day. 3 dives during the day you can do a night dive on the house reef. It's at least an hour to the first area in the central region. The house reef is muck bottom with coral bommies, and can be a great dive. One morning on the walk to the boat thru the muck( it's a shallow bay) we even spotted a blue ring octopus!
They prolly don't allow solo diving as Komodo can have some wicked currents, and you might just get swept far far away.
Komodo is a huge park and the diving can be epic, diving it from liveboard is the most convenient, but SJ resort is a great landbased option. They are currently building another boat to do overnightrips as the south is a long way and makes for a long day.
