New to this board so have a lot of questions I'm hoping most of you can answer. I searched past disussions on Cape Cod diving but mostly found recommendations for boat diving. Unfortunately, I have no boat. Also, I've only found one person doing charters. (Little Squirt Charters out of Sandwich) My in-laws have a place in Dennisport so I spend a lot of time there in summer and would love to find some places to dive from shore. Last season, tried Corporation Beach and left side Sesuit harbor. Yawn!! There have got to be places to dive when you just have urge to go without having to have to off cape. Even the fresh water lakes? Someone at Sea Sport divers in Hyannis recommended Woods Hole..

You could try Sandwich Town Beach -- plenty of parking (small fee during summer), restrooms/snackbar(again, summer only), easy sandy beach entry. It isn't the most exciting dive and is pretty shallow (you will struggle to reach 25 feet, especially at low tide), but it is a good place to get wet. Since it is on the bay side, you can dive it in all but a north wind.

Woods Hole is another idea -- Garbage Beach, which is just a few hundred yards away from the ferry terminal and WHOI. There is metered parking right at the water's edge. You can explore the pier adjacent to the beach for small critters...in the middle of the cove you can easily hit 50+ feet. The underwater vibrations when the ferry comes/goes (10 foot prop) are also quite quite impressive...;-)

Then there's always Hathaway's Pond in Hyannis, which is a VERY popular training site in the spring. There is a training platform just outside the roped off swimming area, a sunken Saab and a "shpwreck" (30 ft fishing boat). At the far end of the pond you can hit depths of 60 feet. Not particularly scenic, although you will see sunfish, freshwater eels, and other small freshwater fish. Some shy away from this pond due to rumors of bacteria problems/bad ear infections.

I'm sure there are other ideas, but those are the only 3 I've dove personally.

I knew of Sandwich as one poss. sight. It's one of locations Sea Sport Dive shop in Hyannis goes for its Thurs guided dives. I'm not too excited re: sand entry, and Shallow. Thanks for tip on Garbage Beach. Will definately look into trying it. Not too excited re: Hathaway pond for ear infection thing..
