Hey all, I am looking for recommendations for SoCal shore dives August 15. Me and my dive buddy are going to be flying in from the Rocky Mountains Aug. 14 and want to do some shore dives on Saturday the 15th. We are headed out on the Peace Boat for 3 days departing from Ventura Saturday evening. We need to book a room for Friday night hopefully close to shore diving with reliable conditions and a dive shop for tank rentals. Shaw's Cove is sounding ok, but is traffic to Ventura going to be a pain? Any group dives going on then?

Ventura to Laguna is a bit of a drive and with heavy traffic can be a real pain. I would try something closer to your area..Though I've never dove La Jellene Park, it is supposed to have some excellent diving : Scuba Shore Diving Site Page for: La Jennelle Park of California Mid, USA West. I of course would recommend diving somewhere on the Palos Verdes peninsula "pretty cut your drive in half, if you were to go to Laguna". Conditions are variable and the dive sites are quite primitive with most having difficult access, but I feel you can't get better diving anywhere on the So Cal mainland. Marineland, White Point and Malaga Cove are the three which have the easiest shore access, but Christmas Tree, Honeymoon and Neptune's Cove tend to have the best visibility and some spectacular reefs. If you need specific info on these sites let me know.

If in the Ventura area try Deer Creek or Leo Carrillo State Park. Both are with in 35-40 min of Ventura.Just head south on PCH twords Malibu and you will find them. As for dive shops around in the ventura area their is Ventura dive and sport in the ventura harbor or sport chalet.

Thanks for the recomendations. These will be our first mainland California shore dives so ease of entry and access to fills are our primary concerns. Being a Saturday hopefully there will be some local divers around to show us the ropes.
