Some day I'll tell my grand kids that when I was young we had to walk uphill both ways to dive.
A bit of a tidal swing.
I haven't used my wide angle lens for a while so I dusted it off and went out to check a new reef today. We had to wait until nearly 11:00 for the fog to lift. Our destination was Golf Ball Reef.
I was diving the Redondo Barge one day when I drifted with a fried egg jelly. By the time I looked down I was over a section of the Artificial Reef I hadn't dived before. There were metridiums, cabezon and octopus nests and even a wolf eel. We began calling the spot Phil's Reef. On a reef offshore from Honeymoon Cove, Merry explored while I tried to get a decent photo of an anemone. She found a nice wall covered with nudibranchs and several species of rockfish. We call it Merry's Reef. She named the site we dived today Golf Ball Reef. I have no idea why.
I was hoping to see some of the Giant Sea Bass or the juvenile wolf eel that have been found here. Naturally, since I was shooting wide angle the reef was covered by nudibranchs. Most were small, but there was several Berthella californica up to three inches long. We'll head back there tomorrow, this time with a macro lens.
