Shingrix Woes

Is Shingrix by prescription only, or can one walk into a pharmacy like Publix and simply request it on the spot, like a flu vaccine? My doctor did mention Shingrix when we discussed my vaccination record at my most recent annual physical, but he said I was on the young side for it and could feel reasonably secure putting it off for a year or more. But in view of this thread, I'm reconsidering. (Marie is a few years younger than me.)

There is a prescription needed, but I think that is taken care of via the medical control at HQ.

I found a CVS with Shingrix. Had the second shot. I’m in serious pain again.

But NO PRESCRIPTION and no co-pay.

Got my second shot today. :-( Arm is achy already, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.
On another note, I looked at how much my insurance company paid for each shot. Wow! Expensive.

Yeah, there was an insert in my papers (which the pharmacist oddly never mentioned) about needing a second shot. That first one was definitely in a class of its own, I'd have thought there was a nasty infection going on if I just felt and saw the big red patch. Shot #2 was only half as bad but that still was a constant nag.

Given the choice of that or shingles...Now I just hope it *works* and we don't all find out we've become medical guinea pigs.

OTOH, this time around when I called and asked to make sure they'd have the vaccine in stock for the second shot, they said there are no more shortages, no problems stocking it. So either production has ramped up, or folks aren't lining up to get it.
