:D I have received my first injection. Standard price is $185. Publix pharmacy provided the injection for $148. That is less than using my insurance that has a medication deductible for this class of medicine. I'll probably get shot #2 in September.

BTW, I didn't find the injection terribly painful. Less painful than a Penicillin shot. It has been over an hour and shoulder is not sore, yet.

$148 is scary. Mine was zero. Just changed insurance plans - wonder what New plan has in store for me.

I had the older Zostavax vaccine 3 years ago and completely covered by insurance, because of my age. Neither my wife or I had any noticeable side effect beyond the poke.

We went to the pharmacy for Shinglix a few weeks ago and found it was not covered nearly as well (around $150 per dose) so we declined it. Perhaps because it is a new vaccine and not yet mainstream the insurers haven't yet decided how to cover it. Seems to me they would want to encourage people to stay healthy. OTOH, after hearing the side effects, we would certainly want to plan for that.

It takes 24 hours or so for your body to mount a defense. :D

Could not convince them I was at risk...gotta get a little older....
My daughter was diagnosed with shingles at 16 years old. She had had chicken pox when she was about 8 months old. They have no idea if that contributed to her getting shingles at such an early age or not.

My first episode was at 23. It definitely can hit at young ages.

I will pay whatever they ask...:(

Shoulder is sore today. Glad I'm not playing golf. Other than that, no ill effects.

Is Shingrix by prescription only, or can one walk into a pharmacy like Publix and simply request it on the spot, like a flu vaccine? My doctor did mention Shingrix when we discussed my vaccination record at my most recent annual physical, but he said I was on the young side for it and could feel reasonably secure putting it off for a year or more. But in view of this thread, I'm reconsidering. (Marie is a few years younger than me.)
