I just bought the Wisdom and for the life of me I can't figure out how to put it into Dive Mode. Can some one please give me a tip. The manual on pg 70 starts out with "During Dive Modes" and skips the part on how the hell to get to them.

Much thanks!

....ummmm...... take it diving?

Although I'm not familiar with the Wisdom specifically, most dive computers monitor pressure and go into the dive mode around 3-5' depth.

Some computers are always on, some need to be started with a button push, other have a water activated start; but the dive mode won't be entered while you are still on the surface unless you have a defective computer.

First time using a dive computer. Thanks for the 3-5' depth info.

I was set to buy a Wisdom, but would like to get an idea of what i really need. I'll be diving mostly in warm water (the only exceptions are lake dives down to around 55 degrees) and plan on diving Nitrox at times.

Here are the issues. Are there any real advantages to having the pressure / air usage information on the computer as opposed to an analog gauge? If so, what are the issues with using a hoseless transmitter type wrist mount computer?

I know that over the years, I've spent my share of money on techie devices only to find out I either don't need, or won't use the 'extras' I paid for.

Any thoughts?

After you turn it on and it runs though it's countdown and diagnostics, it will be where it needs to be and will go into dive mode in the water. The only thing you may want to do before you dive is set it for nitrox or gauge mode rather than the air mode. This is done on the first page of the set menu.

Air integration is nice in terms of giving you an estimate of air time remaining, but if you are an experienced diver, you pretty much know how much time you have left with a given amount of air at a given depth anyway. So it's value depends a lot on your experience level.

On the other hand, where an air integrated SPG really shines is in being able to figure your sac rate across an entire dive. The Wisdom's stock download software does not really do this for you but the Wisdom does store the neccesary data in the database and this information can be imported into other programs that will do it for you.

An analog SPG is more reliable, but if an air integrated computer SPG fails it is not a big deal as you should be monitorung your air regularly and be able to estimate what you have left. If you can't do that, the diver problem is a lot bigger than the equipment problem.

Hoseless computers/SPG's increase the potential for failure in that both the transmitter and receiver can experiecne problems, dead batteries, etc. But again, if you are properly planning and monitoring the situation, you should be able to safely abort the dive after the SPG fails, so the largest potential downside is more aborted dives.

Thanks for the info DA!

When using the Wisdom- after my first dive, will it automatically take into account my surface interval when I go to the PLAN section to look at what my limits will be for my second dive and thereby tell me what my max depth/ time allowable is?

Yes it will. Just FYI, the Wisdom is the same computer as the Aeris AI - just turned sideways. And yes, at any point, in planning mode it will tell you what you can do at that point, based on nitrogen from the previous dive, and your surface interval so far.

The Wisdom can also jump back and forth between air and nitrox modes. So after your first dive, if you are in air mode you can run through the plan features there to get times at various depths. Then you can switch to nitrox mode and set your desired percentage and then go back to the plan mode and get the allowable times and depths on nitrox with your particular nitrogen loading at that point. The same holds true for the sim mode where you could essentially plan/develop a multi-level dive profile.

Thank you all SO much! The manual wasn't written for first time dive computer users. This site has been extremely helpful!

I am not sure who writes dive computer manuals, but I am pretty sure they are not divers as they seem to miss the obvious stuff and overly complicate everything else.
