Hi everyone,

I am new to scuba diving & finally ready to buy my first set of regulators.

The thing is, I live in the pacific and will be doing warm water dive only and the dealership I go to sell the SP MK25/S600 cheaper than the MK25/G250V. And the SR1 almost the same price as the SP MK25/S600.

And I would love to hear your suggestions!!

Thanks!!

I vote for the MK25/600, but only because I have one and know that I really enjoy diving with it. The Sherwood SR1 we carry at the shop. Don't know a lot about it but my 1st regulator was a Sherwood Oasis and I used it for 13 years (with regular servicing) so they are great regs too.

I also hear good things about the G250 but personally I don't like the way it looks - yeah I know, you're supposed to buy regs based on how well they breathe and not looks but I like the way the S600 looks and breathes and that is why I bought that one.

Hope this helps??

Well, at least you're being honest. Given the amount of BS that exists in scuba gear marketing and sales, that's refreshing.

I'm sure the OP would be happy with either. For warm water recreational diving, probably the only practical advantage to the G250V would be the metal air barrel contributing to a little less drymouth.

Thanks you guys for the input.

I went to see my dealer today, and he suggested that the SR1 is the better option for five reasons:

1. The stage 1 on the SR1 is sealed --> less maintenance over time.
2. The pre-dive/ dive switch on S600 is not really beneficial ?!?!?! <- I wonder why?
3. SR1 has wider exhaust wings on the stage 2--> less bubble around the mask.
4. Internal chamber on the SR1 is metal --> less likely to get dry mouth.
5. SR1 with better flow rate and just breaths better than the MK25/S600/G250HP.

I also notice the SR1 stage 2 is small than the S600.

I wish I can try the SR1, but unfortunately around my area I just can’t find a SR1 rental. In any case, I am getting more and more interested in the SR1.

It would be hard to beat the SP MK17/G250v in terms of performance. The larger second stage case means a larger diaphragm and that is an advantage in terms of mechanical leverage and stability. However, just about any regulator will work and many are priced lower. Lots of people around the USA buy pick up trucks or their truck like cousins but when it comes to regulators everybody is checking out the Porsche. Same in the Pacific nether-regions, I guess.
