Hi all!

I have a Sherwood Maximus and found out after diving the other day that half of the Sherwood Sign on the cover of the 2nd stage was missing. the piece of plastic inside the 2nd stage that pushes the diaphragm was now holding in place with only the other half of that sign (they are glued together!)....

Did that happened to you too?? if yes what have you done to fix the problem?

thanks

PS: This only apply to the older model since the new Maximus has a.....new cover!!!

That's what I did. They ordered a new cover..still don't know the price of it. I hoped Sherwood would've changed it for free...

Just wondering to how many people it happened...

This has happened with both my wife's Maximus and now mine. The damage appears only cosmetic on ours, and this particular purge cover doesn't match the new ones - but the overall shape and internal design should, except the exhaust tee. on ours, there's no 'convertible' option from small to large - it's their 'large' model. These were our first reg sets we gave each other for Christmas in 1999. These were the model that was subsequently recalled for internal second stage issues, which we did get corrected gratis when we had them serviced back in 2002 or 2003.

I've switched to using Scubapro regs for the most part, so my Maximus has seen less use than my wife's, which explains why hers came apart sooner than mine. Both now have the upper half of the logo missing. It's never corrected when we take the regs in for routine servicing. My wife has had no performance issues with hers being this way for several years now.

It would be kind of nice if these were replaced (gratis from Sherwood) when they're serviced. But that hasn't been our experience.

Scuba - QC, you could post a link to this thread in the Sherwood sub-forum under Scuba Equipment Manufacturers and see if that gets a response, favorable or otherwise.

Thanks WarmWaterDiver it's appreciated.

Wondering what could happened if the other part of the logo left on the cover would break too. The internal plastic piece would be loose inside. I think the reg would still work fine until you hit the cover purge. Then you could tear up the diaphragme.

Yeah, I think you're right. Ignoring it isn't a good idea. I'm curious to know if Sherwood pays for the repair.

R..

Well it's now fixed!

My LDS ordered me a new cover (of the newest model) and changed it today. Sherwood didn't want to pay. It cost me 25$.

Thanks for the update Scuba-QC. You have a good point in what's currently cosmetic could later become more serious, that my wife & I hadn't really thought deep enough about.

It's clear this isn't just an isolated incident. But based on your experience, you had to pay for the replacement part, and request the defective part be replaced to start with.

Sherwood doesn't currently have a recall on this model for this issue, unlike the internals of this second stage have, so apparently until that happens, these covers won't be replaced by Sherwood during routine service - only at customer request and at customer cost.
