I've read through some older posts on the problems with Sherwood BC's. My brother in law has had his straps break on his Sherwood. My Dive instructor had a strap break on his while walking to the water. I'm not sure which models they have, but I used a Sherwood Avid he loaned me.

As I'm looking for gear to purchase, are the issues across different Sherwood models, or limited to a particular line?

I was under the impression that it was mostly with the Avid series. But my lds says they have only seen a few issues and they were in much older Bcd 's . The ones that people were able to produce a receipt for were replaced no questions asked. It's been on my mind because that's what my lds sells. As well as Zeagle but I did t care for the one I rented. Found it bulky.

I have a Sherwood Avid CQR 3. I've had no issues with the straps. However, I had borrowed a hard (weight belt) weight from my instructor to use in my weight pockets when trying to dial in my weights during my cert dives. I had shot weight bags but, didn't have one of the appropriate weight I wanted to try in the removable pockets.

After the dive when I went to pull the removable pockets, I dropped one of them and it ended up crushing the zipper pull (plastic). Ended up having to replace the entire pocket. Since then, I've been a lot more cautious when removing the pockets. However, I have, on occasioned dropped them during removal. However, I've always had shot bags in them as opposed to solid weights and have had no more issues with the zippers. So, my recommendation is to only use shot bag weights in the removable pockets. If you are forced to use solid weights (as may be the case on a dive boat), use extreme caution when removing the pockets.
