Does anyone have experience or comments about this BC? I was at the LDS this weekend and this is almost exclusively what they are selling for around $380.00. I tried it on and am a perfect size Large. My only problem is that the price is a bit out of my range at this time.


I was hoping to have a BC to take with me on my cruise the end of February. I was also looking at the thread about the Triple-L. The price on these BC's are definitely in my price range. Should I consider the Triple-L or hold out for the Sherwood Avid for when I have the money?

By the way, I'm planning and paying for the majority of a wedding. If it wasn't for the fact that the cruise was paid for long before I became engaged, I wouldn't even be doing that at this time because of my tight budget. However, I'm squeezing in some diving in the Grand Caymans & Cozumel.

In the meantime, I did purchase my 1st wetsuit and also created a wedding registry/wish list at my LDS. I made sure they had check off dives on the list for my fiance to complete his certification. :martian: .

I was given an Avid for a retirement present by the my LDS owner. It fits fine and I like the knife/light kit that you get get with it. I am not all that fond of cumberbuns, but I can live with it. I really like the integrated weight system and the trim weight pockets in the back. Bouyancy characteristics are good. I like the feel of it u/w. Hope this helps and good luck with the wedding plans.
 
I have a sherwood avid BCD. i've used it for 20 dives and really like it alot. It's a size large. I am thinking of selling it since I need a BCD that can do double tanks.

I just purchased a brand new Avid from my LDS for $399 Canadian, right size, right price plus it's the last one they had so I couldn't pass it up. It seems to fit very comfortably but the true test will be when I get to use it on my next trip. I've always used a Sherwood Magnum, it's a good BC and I believe it is one step down from the Avid so I'm thinking this one's going to be pretty good as well.

I can't comment on the Triple-L but if you can't really afford it why not hold off so you can decide which one you really want to get without rushing it and just use a rental BC that I'm sure they are going to have on the cruise ship or at what ever dive shop you choose to use at your port of call. If you rush it and buy one just so you have one for the cruise, it might end up costing you more in the long run if you don't like it.

You might even want to consider the Sherwood Luna over the Avid as it's designed just for women. You never know they might even have a Luna as a rental that you can try before you buy.

Don't worry if BCD is under men or not - I am female and I have a Sherwood Avid, it fits me well!

It's just depends on comfortable level and fitting. If that Sherwood Avid Large fits you well - GO FOR IT if you can!
 
I did a lot of diving with an Avid before I bought my own BCD. My LDS stocks them in their rental department, and they've held up really well under the constant use. I prefer a back-inflation BCD myself, but the Avid was a really nice piece of equipment. Good, crisp inflator; good quality construction; and the weight integration is well done.

I suggest that you wait to buy the BCD that you really want instead of settling for a cheaper piece of gear that you can afford now. That BCD can last you a long time, so make sure you're happy with it. It's also a piece of life support equipment, so you definitely don't want to cut corners!

I Like the Avid , but if have a chance check out the next Tortuga, I just got that one and like it a lot , really nice BCD
 
I also have the Avid, with the knife/light/retractor kit.

I have about 20 dive with it and I don't have any complaints. I find it comfortable and have had no problems in the water. The integrated weight system works great. The retractors for the light and the computer are very handy.

I just purchased a Sherwood Avid as part of a packkage deal, but I believe the cost was about upper $300. Anyway, I love it. It's the first BC I have owned and I researched a lot before pulling the trigger. I have never heard anything bad about them, and I dove them as rental gear. BTW, they are found as rental gear for a reason...they will outlast about anything on the market, and I live in the midwest which means pool and chlorine for most schools. My LDS sells his rentals regularly, and these things fetch almost market price as used equipment.

One thing I have learned in life, whatever the purchase may be, save your money for what you really want and don't settle for less....you'll either regret it, or end up buying what you wanted eventually anyway.
