Just starting out and looking for a BC. A local guy is selling his Sherwood Avid CQR (circa 2007) that is in great shape. Anyone use this model and have any input on longevity and experience with it? There are a couple of old reviews from people with stuck inflator valves, but just as many that say it is a great unit. One thing I noticed looking at it, the weight pockets are secure and come out cleanly, but there is no way to lock them back into place with one hand...the clip is in the back of the pocket out of reach for both hands to get to. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I used a Sherwood Avid (2005 vintage) for my first 400 dives or so and it's now in semi-retirement sile ready for use. As far as I'm concerned it's a great BC and will dive as well as anyting if the fit is right.

Almost any inflater valve will eventually stick and need a quick cleaning. I know of nothing I'd call a unique issue with these.

Here is an old post where I captured my selection.

I am not a fan of a seriously weighted BC prefering to load all but what is needed for trim on a belt or harness. That being said my pockets rarely were removed/replaced and then only at set-up. Also stuffed weight pockets will compete with your zippered pockets for the same space.

2 thumbs up!

I got one in 2006. It was an OK BC. not the most comfortable, but not terrible either. Personally didn't care for the soft back plate on it. I prefer a rigid backplate. Just has more support of the cylinder & easier on the back.
