Hi,

I have several Shearwater Swift 2 transmitters, and one of them made a loud pop this morning when I pressurized it.

At first, I thought it was an O-ring failure, but the O-ring looked fine. When I compared it to my other transmitters, I noticed an uncovered hole on the one that popped. I also found a small black rubber sphere-shaped seal that had been expelled.

I replaced the seal and tried again, but it popped out once more when repressurized.

I’ve checked the manual, spare parts list, and FAQ, but couldn’t find any information about this part or issue.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or if the unit will need servicing?

Thanks in advance!

What is the pressure of the tank you attached it to? I assume it should be good up to 3500 psi. Is there a published limit?

I've had my SWIFT transmitters on tanks up to just under 4000 psi with no issue. I believe the 4350 psi limit is accurate.

It's the over pressure valve. It will require service or replacement, hope it's under warranty
What @scubadada says is the answer.

This is a "safety feature" to stop cylinder pressure building up behind the plastic cap. As such, if it pops out, service/replace, and don't try to put it back in.

SPG's have a similar device for the same reason.

It's a known problem for some of the models. Contact shearwater and they will get you a replacement transmitter without a problem.

Hard to believe -- everyone tells me that AI technology is bulletproof and a mechanical SPG will let you down every time. I am confused
