How safe is to travel to Sharm el Sheikh in February regarding the situation in region ?

I have no idea. We were yesterday just thinking the same. We had plans on diving in Dahab in April. Now it's seems as we are leaning towards Phuket.

I'm thinking of doing Dahab in Feb or March, and the same thing has kind of occurred too. If it makes anyone feel any better, that bit of Egypt is about as far from Iraq as Cyprus is, and its really cheap to get there right now. My history is a bit unfortunate however - last time I went to Fiji they started a military coup the day after I arrived - if I do go, I can pretty much guarantee that Bush will start the war right then.

To Sharm el Sheikh duirng operation "desert storm" (1991). Herei n Israel Scud missiles were falling almost every day, but they had wonderful times in Sinai, Sharm was as empty from tourists as it never was, all the dive sites were almost empty (from divers and boats, not fish). It was the best experience they had in Sinai for years. If there's going to be a US-Iraq war then I think Sharm is THE place to be, and if you come we may meet there :) because I'll do any effort to spend this time in Sharm...

I think that Sharm is too far away from any problems related to Iraq.

I love the optimism - I still intend to be in Dahab in March. If they scud the Saudi's, does that mean we get a free light show?

I've been in touch with a dive center in Naama Bay Sharm and I voiced the same concerns as all of you. Apparently the divers are still flocking. They've got two big groups booked for the beginning of Feb. I mean who's to say what will develope in the next month or so. I am personally optimistic that we're safe in Sinai.
