I am going to Egypt Sharm El Sheikh in Feb and wondered if anyone had been there at this time. I have a .5 silverskin all in one. And a 7mm two peice. whould any of these be usefull as I don't know the temp of the water at this time.

Steve,

You might have better luck posting this in the travel section. Or have a regulator move it there.

Most of the dive shops will rent 5mm two piece suits. Depending on your hardiness this is just about enough in Feb. A lot of the locals will be wearing drysuits.

The 7mm is probably about right. You might be OK with a rented 2 piece and your 0.5 underneath if you don't want to pack the 7. With an all in package the cost saving in taking your own suit is minimal (asuming you are a standard fit)

From Sharm you will probably be boat diving and spend the whole day on the boat. If there is wind (which there probably will be) you might get cold between dives so take a fleece. Your suit might not dry out in time for the second dive. Put some effort into hanging it up so it has the best chance to dry, the wind is dry and there usually sun so it can be done.

Thanks Nick,

I think I will take my suite as its new and the rent stuff normaly has holes and is a bit smelly. I feel the cold quite a bit so will take my .5mm as well. Thanks for the advice.

Was reading through this page and noticed your comments about rented equipment and it just brought back happy memories of a cold and wet Stoney cove and me with a semi dry suit that had a gaping hole in the crutch. Its nice to know that still think of me. Well the smell was there too but I had good ventilation.
Hope you have a good diving hols steve but hope to talk to you before you go.
P.S did you hear thAT scuba has shut it went into liquidation. Drop us a line some time be nice to hear from you.

A 7mm one piece with arms and legs is enough. If you have a hood that would be nice in Feb. I used a 5mm suit in the winter and I was fine. It is when you get out that you will feel cold with the wind blowing and whatnot.
You can wear a 2-piece but I have never seen anyone wear a 2-piece in the Red Sea (not to insinuate that it never happens). The water temperature should be in the low 20s in Feb.

definitely the 7mm over the skin.

When I went in Feb I wore a 7mm and was very toasty - would have preferred a 5mm as I don't feel the cold too much, but I don't own one.

Or you could use a membrane dry suit - a neoprene one maybe a bit too warm. Expect temperatures the lower side of the 20's and it will be a little cool in the wind top side.

Enjoy
Jonathan
