OK, perhaps this should go in dive reports, but I 'm too excited. CaptAdam, myself and a couple other folks, (non-SB'ers), went out for a couple of beachdives on Sunday. Decided to hit Big Rock in Malibu first. Water was 69 at the surface, nice! Dropped and hit thirty five feet, good beach viz, (5-25', depending on wave action), got a few scallops, good times.
Now for the good part. We go out to Deer Creek, flat as glass, kelp bed looks amazing. Kite boarders zooming around, looks nice. We go out, drop, and head 180. My buddy gets cold, so I head 270 for 5 mins, then 0 to bring us home. In 20 ft of water I saw a flash of silver, so I stop and wait. Whoa. It's a shark. Not a swell, or a horn, but a real, sharky looking shark. Another, and another. I turn to follow them and run into CaptAdam. Yep, his eyes are huge, and he's signaling fins left and right. We figure there were 10-15 of them, 3 to 6' long. General research indicates soupfins. The second I pulled out the camera, they vanished.
What a great dive.
(I do wish I'd gotton a photo, though.)
