My wife and I earned our OW certification in Tahiti (dove Bora Bora and Moorea) this summer.

Put your fears about the sharks at rest. If your experience will be anything like ours, you WILL see sharks. However, at no time during our dives did we ever feel they were deciding whether we should be on their menu or not. They are wonderful, graceful creatures with whom we shared the sea.

We did see a few black tip reef sharks on our dive to Table Top and Tapu when we dove in Bora Bora. It was our diving in Moorea where the sharks were the most plentiful--dozens of reef sharks and a few Lemon Sharks lurking at a distance.

Go enjoy yourself...these sharks ain't going to do anything but give you a great photo op.

PS...here's some of our friends we met in French Polynesia

A belated thanks for the new responses but for our next trip we have chickened out for now and are heading to St. Croix instead. Maybe next trip . I guess after we see our first shark and get out of the water with all our limbs still attached ,we'll be more at ease with them.

we snorkeled extensively in Moorea, BoraBora and Huihine and never saw a shark
