Do you open the bottle to get the sound of the water whooshing in and out as you squeeze it? Or do you cap it and just get the plastic "crackling and crunching" sound? I've never tried this.

Just 'wiggle' each end a bit once it has been compressed and it will produce a kind of clicking sound. The first time I heard it I thought there were dolphins around someplace and it wasn't until I got back on the boat that I found out why I was staring out into the blue the whole dive for once NOT looking for sharks! :)
 
A dive guide on my first trip to Palau carried the bottle, crinkled it and the sharks would pivot and turn suddenly and he would point at me. At the end of the dive, I was ready to cry. It is pretty profound how they react... I really don't want my freediver spear friends to even hear about this one. Its bad enough that they are alway pulling fish blood and guts out when you least expect it and strewing it about....
