Anyone have any tips on shark diving trips to the Fallaron Islands? Who are the best dive operators? What is the best time of year to go?

Thanks,
Geoff

Thanks for the link Chuck. Yea! The trip is rather pricy! But the only other game on the West Coast that I know of heads down to Mexico. Those trips sounds great but they're an even a bigger investment, in terms of both time and money.

You mentioned that they have a good rep...have you been out with them? If so, how was the trip?

I haven't been out with them, but I've talked to a couple of people who have, and
a guy I know divemasters for them.

I have been to the Farallones diving several times, but not in shark season. A two or
three day trip on the old Pac Star, and three trips on my Boston Whaler.

Chuck Tribolet:
three trips on my Boston Whaler.

What size whaler do you use for that sort of run?

My brother on the east coast has a Whaler but he's moving to California and will sell and get something new once he's out here. I'm just curious as to what is possible with a less than yacht size craft in the Bay Area.

Thanks for the link to your whaler site. I was going the inflatable route and you just changed my mind. Great stuff! Still find it incredible that you run it to the Farallons.

We take two boats to the Farallones, both for reduntant power if we have mechanical
problems, and so while diving, we can anchor one boat as a fixed base, and follow the
divers bubbles with the other one. Both boats are Boston Whaler Montauks, my 98ish
16'7" model, and KawikaC's 2003ish 17'0" model.

Before your post, I had not heard of anyone diving at the Fallarons outside of a shark cage. What's it like? Have any pictures?
