"A shark attack in Egypt’s Red Sea resort town of Marsa Alam has killed one foreigner and injured another, Egypt’s Ministry of Environment said in a statement Sunday.
The attack occurred in deep waters, the ministry said, outside the designated swimming area of Marsa Alam.
The injured foreigner was taken Porto Ghalib hospital for treatment, the ministry statement said, adding that an emergency committee has been established to investigate the incident.
Their nationalities have not been disclosed.
There have been several similar incidents in recent years.
Last year, a deadly shark attack killed a Russian citizen in the popular tourist city of Hurghada on Egypt’s eastern coast, prompting the closure of nearby beaches."

Actually, a diving buddy of mine is there at the moment. In fact, the driver of their zodiac was the one who rescued one of the victims while the shark was still attacking him. (They weren’t on the boat at that moment.)
The shark was approximately a 5-meter-long tiger shark. The two victims were a father and son, aged 45-50 and 70 years old. The son died instantly from a wound to his leg, while the father sustained serious injuries to his hands and thigh. (They didn’t share the pictures, saying nobody would want to see them.)
They were NOT divers.
The incident happened near Abu Dabbab, a place where you can sometimes see dugongs. They were swimming in deep water outside the designated swimming zone near the jetties. (Swimming there is actually forbidden.)
