Don't put any clip on the end of the line. What you need is a plastic bead between 1 1/4" to 3/4" diameter. I have gone to those cheap jewlery stores and bought a bead necklace for 2 bucks just to get a dozen beads - though it's fun to bug my wife about earning some beads, however to date she has never taken me up on it. Anyway back on track...
Now you have to put the bead on a loop on the end of the line. Use a bowline for your knot to complete the loop. Don't tie the bead on, just let it slide within the loop. Make sure this loop is large enough that you can pass the entire reel through. So, when you do your tie off, you loop the line around the tie off point and double the reel back through the loop in the end of the line. This works on any size tie off from another line, to a lift bag, to a tree stump to a hand rail on a wreck.
Stay away from clips
