Good Morning all! I was wondering what experiences everyone has had getting there LDS to service gear purchased online. I am looking at getting my BF outfitted with gear and leisurepro has some great prices on packages. On average how much would it cost to get an LDS to service the reg and computer. I bought all my gear through my LDS so I don't have to pay for service but I paid close to double the price of a comparable package on leisurepro.

It depends on the LDS. I was told that I could never get my computer serviced, etc because I bought it from LP, but I have had no problems in 3 years now. The price fluctuates for service, but plan on paying for parts and labor.

you say the lds that you purchased your gear gives you service...go with them and explain the price differences..I am sure they will come down abit based on your previous purchases, I know I would, and you will get your BF gear AND service. Also any gear you purchase online may not be a line the LDS can service so you would have to ship it back to them and wait..Which may be ok for you if you are organized to do it and not wait till you are leaving somewhere in a week and need it done asap..,,

Never had any problems having my gear serviced at my LDS no matter where I purchased it.
LP also offers service and they are not too bad. Just in case you you have trouble with your LDS.

If someone brings in gear purchased online and I'm able to do it. I certainly will for normal cost and parts. I won't treat you like a plague because of it. Of course you wouldn't expect any special favors either, like offering a loaner for the week, testing it in the pool instead of attached to a tank, etc.

Recently I've heard of one shop that is charging extra if you didn't buy your gear from them. Says it is because he gives better service and it is the only way to make sure it is still under warranty.

If you are really getting free service, not just free parts, then the reg from your LDS is well worth twice the price of the LP kit.

If only the parts are free and you pay for service, then you may well be paying a lot for service than you anticipate. But there are a number of reputable and reasonably priced service providers that really don't much care whether you bought that reg from LP or your LDS.

I bought most of my first set of stuff online years ago, and the LDS I went to afterwards did not even flinch about servicing. They clearly wanted my business for the long term and saw no reason to alienate me. It worked--I have been a loyal customer (and now an employee) for years.

When I bought the material online, I did not consider the cost of annual servicing in the cost of the product. When you are comparing prices, it is something to consider. In the long run, it would have been cheaper for me to buy it locally.

Now that I have all locally purchased materials (I do get a discount on the initial price), I am quite pleased not to be paying annual service costs.
