I have a older Sherwood Brut 1st and 2nd stage, with a genesis presure gage, last serviced in 2004. Question, I can buy a complete setup for 250.00 or service the Sherwood Brute, any suggestions.

Seat Elite RX330
Simple construction and extraordinary toughness are matched by outstanding performance. A classic, unbalanced pistion first-stage offers 3 low-pressure ports, 1 high-pressure port, and the simplicity of one moving part. A rugged, lightweight, non-adjustable second stage with a pillow-bite mouthpiece and venturi assist rounds out this great economy regulator. Combined with a unique high-flexibility hose, this is one of the most comfortable regs you can buy without a swiveling second-stage! This Package includes: Sea Elite RX330 Regulator, SX30 Octopus and your choice of Instrument.

Welcome to the board.
The Sherwood is going to cost you $100-130 to have it serviced, you will then have tuff reg that will go for years.
The Sea Elite will need service in a year anyway which will cost you about the same.

So, after the first year, the cost of ownership is pretty much a break even. If you do the recommended yearly service they are going to cost you about the same. The Sherwood will be easier to get serviced if you travel, they have been around for a long time and lots of places work on them, not so much for the SE's.

A third option, if you feel you are up to it is to spend the $100 on rebuild kits and tools then do the Shewood yourself. It's not rocket science. After that your cost is $20 or so for rebuild kits.

herman, what is the reliable source of the rebuild kits? Manufacturers usually don't sell them to the public. I can see some on eBay, but it's kinda sketchy...

Sherwoods are fairly easy to get. There are places that will sell others and some dive shops will sell them if they know you. When you find a source you kinda keep it quite to keep the manuf off their backs. If you order from the shop in Spain, you might as well get a couple of sets. Within reason, they will not go bad so why not keep an extra or 2 on hand.

These guys at least list them on their web site although I have not gotten any from them. Regulator Rebuild Kits
These guys are in Spain but they will ship to the US. I have gotten parts from them before. accesories

Thanks!
