Interesting blog. This brings up a question: Is there a standard protocol regarding engagement of propellers when divers are getting on / off the boat?

One of the rules we were taught for "moored diving" is that no one goes into the water until after the engines have been turned off - actually the rule is often a little more strict - no one is allowed to standup until the engines are off.

I understand that "live drops" are different than being moored.

What types of protocols have others encountered?

It would be interesting to hear what their protocol was. She almost sounds as if she blames herself for not jumping farther out on her giant stride and that would imply that she knew engines were running.
