Hi All:

Figured I'd post this here because of higher traffic.

I'm in the process of setting up a new harness and BCD after being absent a number of years from diving. I'm using a back mount wing with waist belt mounted pockets.

My issue is, how to retain the second stage octopus? I'm using a 60" octopus hose (for open water) and intend to pass the octopus in out-of-air sharing situations, not breath it. Previously, I used a tubing loop secured to the mouthpiece and a D-Ring and this worked well, but I haven't seen this type of set-up lately. In fact, most of the harness set-ups I've seen lately actually use a bolt snap attached to the hose for retaining the octopus.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

THANKS!

I don't think you've seen a bolt-snap retaining an octopus. My guess is you're more likely to see it on a primary, used for clipping it off when it is not in anyone's mouth.

Having an octopus clipped off by one of those babies wouldn't be a great idea IMO.

I'd have to agree with Steve. The most common method (especially amongst BP/W divers) seems to be putting a bolt snap on the primary so it can be clipped off when not in use. The octo is often retained on a necklace, because in an air sharing situation the regulator in your mouth is the one donated.

Just what I have observed......

Well, OK, that makes sense BUT, I know I saw these on octopus hoses too. I didn't think that made any sense either.

After a little more research this AM, I found the DiveRite Octopus Holder that seems to fit the bill nicely for me.

Thanks for the help!
