Hello everyone! I am fairly new to diving and am looking for a bit of info on hooking up my new regulator and octopus with a pressure gauge on my MK25 - is this something i could do myself or do i need to have a professional hook it up? I havn't really looked into hooking it up, so i figure id ask first. I will be diving Turneffe Atoll in Belize on January 4 and i really want to bring my new gear and test it out but i bought the R295 later and they arn't hooked up. I have also yet to pickup a pressure gauge for it yet but i assume they are both installed the same way. Also the gear is brand new out of the box, is there anything i need to service before i use them?

thanks, any info is appreciated!! dive safe!! :lotsalove:

The first thing you need to do is decide whether you're gonna mount the first stage swivel-up or swivel-down. It makes no difference to the regulator--it'll work fine both ways. Next, hook the SPG up to the HP ports (not on the swivel) that will be facing your left side.

On the swivel (for swivel-up mounting), find the largest gap between ports and orient that gap toward the back of your head. Mount your primary reg to the first port to the right of the gap. On the next port clockwise (looking from the top of the swivel) mount the octo. Skip one port, and mount your LPI hose on the next port. Do this process backwards if you're mounting your reg swivel-down.

I'm doing all this from memory. If I remember correctly, there are four ports mounted radially and one axially on the swivel. I'm talking about the radial ports here. I'd leave the axial port plugged. That's the port coming out of the top of the swivel. What I described above should be the standard way of putting your reg together.

Now--assuming this is a new, untested reg, you would be quite wise to find out what the intermediate pressure (IP) is and make sure it's set properly. Unless you have an IP gauge, you'll probably have to go to a dive shop to check it out. I would also strongly recommend you make your first dive with this reg in a swimming pool where you can bail out in a hurry if it's not right.

TF is right (he usually is) you should have the Intermediate Pressure checked before your trip, but if that is not possible, once you have hooked up your gear you will know if there is a serious problem because it will either free flow or be hard to breathe from. Here is a link to LP's website where you can see a second stage hooked up to a MK25. http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/SCPM25G2V.html

Just hook up your other second stage to an adjacent low pressure port. The gauge will be hooked up to a high pressure port (marked hp).

Edit: The inflator hose goes on a left side low pressure port.

Usually, the swivel turret points down (unlike the picture) so once you have it orientated that way, install the gauge so it will come off the hp port on the left.

I suggest you rent or borrow a tank and do the checks described in this thread prior to your vacation. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/regulators/260452-regulator-checklist-inspection.html

Getting pool time with it is also highly recommended.

Now I'm assuming you did not buy this regulator from your local dive shop. If you did purchase it from a LDS, take it in and have them hook it up for you and test it. They should be willing to do this at no cost.

Installing the hoses to the first stage is not hard or complicated. Just don't over tighten them. Spin down to seat by hand, 1/2 a turn or so with a wrench.

thanks a lot for the posts! that really clears a few things up. depending if i have time to get my gear tested and whatnot, i might just settle for whatever regs they got over there. If i don't have time to get to a dive shop and test them here would anyone think i should just bring all my gear and maybe they can test them if i can find a dive shop when i get there? does anyone know if cruise lines have any sort of dive equipment or shop? or do they usually have a boat come pick u up from the islands? btw i'm goin on a cruise to belize, costa maya, and cozumel. I'm trying to dive all three destinations and i figure theres gota be somewhere with a pool and dive shop where i can test them. what do you guys think? thanks for the info!
