I've been diving my beloved Atomic Split Fins for about 3.5 years. I chose these rather than a blade style fin due to knee issues. They just seem to be easier on my knees. However, I've found that my Atomics are a bit heavy and don't offer quite the same amount of control as blades when hovering or making minor position adjustments for a macro photo.

I had heard that the Seawing Novas are a nice compromise between blades and Split Fins so I figured I'd give them a try. Here is a quick rundown of my completly unscientific first impression:

Appearance: Funky Looking and a good conversation starter.
Weight: They float and are noticeably lighter than my Atomics.
Foot Pocket: Comfortable and a tad wider than my Atomics making them easier to pull off.
Strap: Comes with a comfortable, easy to use, bungee strap. I use spring straps on my Atomics...I like the bungees better.
Speed: I'm a part time DM/DCS who occassionally has to chase down younger/stronger/faster students who decide to swim off in the wrong direction in murky water...My Atomics are pretty darn quick and so are these.
Control: Frog kicking, helicopter turns and backing up seemed easier than the Atomics.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I was in a quarry so I haven't had a chance to test them in a current. I'll be diving the Big-O in about 3 weeks and I plan to take them along. Will they replace my Atomics? Not just yet...but I really do like them.

I made the same switch about 3 and a half years ago.... Never looked back missing the Atomics. When I had them I enjoyed them but once I began using Novas that was it.

Bungies are far better than springs.

Hi,

I'm currently thinking about making this same switch. After half a year with the seawings, which fins do you like better and why?
