Just wondering: are the Scubapro Seawing Nova fins considered DIR or not?

I don't believe there is any announcement about them :)

GUE has this to say about fins:

Stiff blade fins are popular among divers who need to swim quickly, move against strong currents, or push large amounts of equipment through water. Less rigid fins will work when pushing less equipment or when less power is desired. The best practice for divers is to use the same gear all the time. Divers should remove all plastic buckles from their new fins and substitute for them stronger attachment springs.

Having tried the Nova fins in the pool, I'd say they come under the category of "less rigid fins". In addition, when you are involved in a discipline that tapes the ends of rubber fin straps to avoid entanglement hazards, the "waistline" of the Nova, with the corrugated posts that attach the two halves of the fin, looks a lot like an invitation to entanglement in line. Finally, the fins haven't been out long enough to know how durable those connecting posts are going to be, and DIR definitely prefers equipment with fewer failure points and longer durability (do you want to be a couple thousand feet back in a cave when one of those breaks?)

As far as the kicks go, they seem really nice fins for flutter kicking and rapid movement forward. Frog kicking is possible, but requires some alteration of technique. Back kicking is also possible, and I think would get easier with practice.

All in all, I don't see that they have any advantages to outweigh their disadvantages, if studied from the DIR point of view.
