I have the velcro system on my Diva LX, has about 50 dives on it. I haven't had any problems with them on my personally cared for velcro.

When renting a QD, I lost a pocket when being helped to my feet on a washing machine rocky exit. IMHO, any quick release system is not going to be ideal where there is significantly greater risk of the front of your BC being bumped or snagged. You must be conscious of this failure point and plan accordingly -- this may mean reverting back to the standby weight belt in certain situations.

I like the WI BCs (over a non-WI BC), but I do split up my weight between a light weight belt, some in the pockets, and some on my back (either steel tank, or in the trim pouches).

The new Surelocks have material in the "where the pocket gets inserted into the BC" area that keeps this area expanded so it's easier to put the weight pocket into position. Nice feature, but with the velcro system, the pocket area of the BC flattens out when not using pockets. This gives me the option of using the pockets, or putting my weight on a (more secure) weight belt.

After leaning toward the Diva, my wife recently went instead with ScubaPro LadyHawk. There has been no problems with the weight system so far, and we actually found a better price for the LadyHawk than the Diva.

My .02, best of luck on what ever you decide to do.

I bought my Seaquest Balance w/surelock last year and have approximately 40 dives on it. I love the BC and have had no problems with the pockets coming out. I do have to stress, however, that one has to sometimes use a little extra umph to get the pockets to click. Once they are in they are very stable in my opinion. I think the problems some people may have been having could be due to not "locking in " the pocket.

I was thinking about sewing on an extra "safeguard" to the weight system. It would be a two piece plastic clip similar to the ones on the front of the BC's. The male would go on the BC and the female would go on the pull-tab on the weight belt. I havn't figured it out yet because my BC is in transit (just purchased a BD w/SL). Basically, I'd grab the female, unclip, and keep pulling. When a force is applied (not by myself) that would force the pocket out of the BC, the clip would keep it in. Any thoughts?

My wife and I have SureLocks. We have not lost any pockets but she has lost a weight belt before.

and absolutely love it,no problems.just listen for that little click then double check. Will buy one for my 12 year old son next month when he gets certified without a doubt.

If I buy another BC, I will get the sure-lock as that is what the students in the pool are using. I bought my ProQD+ before that was an available option. From what I have seen of it, I like the sure-lock one heck of a lot better than velcro.

Wouldn't quite work.

You see, the SL doesn't rely on just an extraordinary amount of force being applied -- the handle has to be pulled, because that's what disengages the clip.

The mechanism looks very sturdy, and I imagine that there are really only two ways you would lose these pockets: a) they're not clipped in to start with or b) something snags the handle.

(and to all you naysayers... these two issues are there with any weight system, AFAIK).

I have a Balance and a Pro Unlimited. On the Pro I looked at the Surelock, but went with the velcro. Like RICHinNC said, wash the velcro in hot water.
