Hi everybody. I'm new to the board and had a question. I have heard that you cannot use the Atomic SS1 with Seaquest BC's. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I've got my heart set on the Seaquest Pearl because it is the most comfortable BC I've ever worn, but I will likely pass it by for something else if I can't use the SS1.

Thanks!

Hi Ann

I have the pearl i3 bc and love it.

As for the SS1, I do not have the details about it but I do know that the air II can be installed so I assume that the SS1 could be also. The air fill on the Pearl, as you know, is on the lower left side of the bc and is a nice lever. There is the manual air fill tube on the left shoulder (I only use it to fill the bc when drying) that can be replaced with the Air II which would then eliminate the need for the octo. I decided to buy the seperate octo instead of the air II as it was cheaper and I would not have spent money for a bc that had a feature that I would not use. Or if you still use the inflate/deflate lever, you need another hose for the Air II or SS1. So there is no advantage for streamlining purposes as you would not need the octo hose.

Hope this helps.
Barbara

The Atomic inline octo has three different adaptors for three different sizes of hose connections. I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't fit a Seaquest Pearl.

Well, here's what happened:

I called SeaQuest and Atomic customer service and asked them the same question. I wanted to hear it directly from the manufacturer.

Seaquest's (condensed) response:

"If you buy the SS1 and try and put it on one of our BC's, tradgedy is going to strike and no one is going to help you because it will be considered user error. You can't mix and match equipment like that."

Atomic's (condensed) response:

"Of course you can put an SS1 on a Seaquest BC. We have tons of customers that have done that. We make a special adaptor just for the Seaquest BC's."

So, I suppose I have my answer and the foreknowledge not to rely upon Seaquest customer service.

AnnArcher.

The Seaquest Pearl is available in two model last I looked. One model has the lever thinghy and no corrugated hose like a standard BC, on this model there simply is mo place to mount teh SS1. The other model has the standard corrugated hole and will accept the SS1.

I hope this clears everything up.

Of course Seaquest is going to say no. They'd rather you spend money on their own inline octo.

The Atomic SS1 works great on my Dive Rite backplate. Breaths much better than the Dive Rite optional inline octo (identical to Scubapro unit - must have been made by the same company & marketed by DR and SP).

That's what we call "hitting the nail on the head". Once the guy got done telling me that if I used the SS1 "tradgedy would strike" and "no one would help me", he went right in to telling me that I should get the AQ equivalent of the SS1.

Aside from the installation questions (if your BC has a normal hose, it should fit just fine), the SS1 is a real first class alternate air source. It uses Stainless Steel parts, breathes better than a lot of octos and has a threaded connector on the inflator hose that lets you remove it and your regulator without removing the LP hose.

This means you can take all your regulators back and soak them in water instead of leaving the SS1 on your BC.

It's a very elegant arrangement and encourages treating the alternate with the same care that your primary gets. Also, if you end up with more than one BC, the SS1 moves easily between BCs since the threaded adapter is easily available and inexpensive.

OK, I just have to ask...

Was this really what was said, or are you paraphrasing??

:shocked2:

Yeah, I'm pretty much completely in love with everything Atomic does. As much as I love the comfort of the Seaquest Pearl BC, I was going to buy something else if I couldn't put the SS1 on it. The choice was easy really. As it is, I already dive Atomic Fins and Mask and my brand new B2 reg is on it's way. Oh, things that make me a happy girl.

Oh no, I shortened the conversation, but that was not (to the best of my ability) paraphrasing. I can't guarantee that I have that exactly word for word, but it's damned well close. I couldn't help but giggle when he said it. It's been a running joke with me and my boyfriend for the last 24 hours and was almost enough to put me off from buying Seaquest altogether. He also hinted that by putting the SS1 on a Seaquest, I would void the warrenty. I'm not so sure that's accurate. I think he was more pushing for a sale of their own inline octo system. Bottom line, the whole conversation was pretty absurd.
