The Dive News Network (DNN), publisher of North America Dive News, is partnering with SeaLife Cameras, the leading underwater camera manufacturer, for a series of local dive events and introduction to underwater photography sessions. The joint promotion, called the SeaLife DEMO Event & Shootout, will be held all across the USA, and incorporate SeaLife corporate support, local dive retailer participation, and Dive News Network sponsorship.
According to DNN publisher Rick Stratton, the partnership is based on an old school philosophy. This kind of partnership is not new. Local reps, dive clubs and retailers have been doing them for years; but it isnt as common now, he stated. These days it is hard to get companies to do DEMO events - they are expensive and time consuming. As a result, there have been significantly fewer kinds of demo events. DNN is excited to partner with SeaLife on these events, because they promote an active diving lifestyle and a truly great brand.
The DEMO events will be organized by SeaLife Cameras through their local area representative who will conduct an underwater photography seminar and, when possible, an open water photography teaching session. The three-hour session and open water demonstration will be announced and available through the retailer. At approximately $25-$50, the entry fee includes the seminar, in-water photography demonstration, and food & beverages.
At the close of each event, participants meet with the dive staff and area SeaLife rep for a social event at the dive shop or local venue. Photos collected at the event will be shown in an informal slideshow, and attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes from local sponsors, adding some excitement for all participants.
Photos collected at the event will be used as part of a National Photo contest (SeaLife Shootout), where participants can win valuable prizes including tropical dive trips that will be donated by SeaLife Cameras, DNN and a variety of other sponsors. The contest will be open to all photographers and videographers across the US from July 1 through October 1, and photos and videos across several categories, using all types of cameras, will be accepted.
Dive Retailers will be asked to promote the Demo & Shootout events to their customers via email, website, mailings and in-store face to face marketing, and can organize logistics for the event with their SeaLife representative. Retailers will also coordinate with their local rep for time, date, and location of demo sessions, open water dives, and the social events. Dive retailers will receive in-kind sponsorship from their local dive magazine including annual print and online subscriptions to give away at the social.
Dive News Network will provide press coverage of the event before, during, and after the event through magazine and website articles including printing the winning images potentially on the cover of a future edition. DNN will work with the local dive retailers to promote the event to their readership including special offers to promote the event during the month the event is run, depending on the date of the event.
