well... seems like i keep reading about sea lions putting the smack-down on people lately:

-- A sea lion bit 14 swimmers this month and chased 10 more out of the water at San Francisco's Aquatic Park, a sheltered lagoon near the bay. At least one victim suffered puncture wounds.

-- In Southern California in June, a sea lion charged several people on Manhattan Beach and bit a man before waddling into the water and swimming away.

-- In Berkeley, a woman was hospitalized last spring after a sea lion took a chunk out of her leg.

-- Last year, a group of sea lions took over a Newport Beach marina and caused a vintage 50-foot yacht to capsize when they boarded it.

-- A lifeguard in Santa Barbara was bitten three times while swimming off El Capitan State Beach.

-- In Alaska, a huge sea lion jumped onto a fisherman's boat in 2004, knocked him overboard and pulled him underwater; he escaped without serious injury.

so ... my theory is that Al-Quadea has infiltrated the sea lion population in the West Coast and has ordered the new recruits to take on the man...

could happen...

My policy has always been shoot first ask questions later, just in case they were Al-Quadea.

Isn't there some sort of rule on the water that smaller vessels need to yield to larger vessels? We, the smaller vessel, need to yield to them, the larger vessel. (j/k)

No, they're just getting even for all of them we killed for oil before petroleum was discovered in Pennsylvania, the habitat of theirs we've encroached upon and the stocks of fish we've taken away from them. Seems like a perfectly normal reaction on their part as far as I can determine as a marine biologist (with tongue in cheek).

The sea lions haven't gone wild ... they were born that way ...

I thought this thread was going to be about topless sea lions.

I was at a club last weekend and...this sea lion was SO drunk. She only had on bunny ears.

i was BORN to be wild... but you're telling me the sea lions are BORN wild?

get out of here!

i don't think the proximity of people to sea lions, the interaction between the sea lions and people, including feeding, and the association of food with people have anything to do with the "bizarre" behavior of these "wild" animals

:no

although, i must say, this bunch here:

-- Last year, a group of sea lions took over a Newport Beach marina and caused a vintage 50-foot yacht to capsize when they boarded it.

sounds like some fun sea lions to party with

Around here, the only time sea lions seem to bother divers is during mating season when the bulls are fighting for dominance. I still haven't figured out an effective series of hand signals for "She's 400 lbs, hairy, and smells bad ... I assure you Sir Lion, I am NOT interested in your woman" ...

hehehe... too funny

my wife says she was accosted by a dolphin in a kayak ... my wife, that is, was in the kayak ... and the dolphin got sort of friendly and bumped the kayak a few times...

other than that, we don't have large, horny mammals in Florida... other than, you know ...

boy that joke is going nowhere
