Rescuers are searching for a man after he had gone missing Sunday morning while diving for sea cucumber in a northern island, authorities have said.

A police spokesperson said divers from the police and armed forces are looking for Abdul Rasheed Hussein from Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi since Sunday morning.

Police said Hussein was diving with a partner. They were headed towards the nearby island of Villingili when Hussein was reported missing at around 7am, police added.

According to the police Hussein was wearing a black wet suit.
