Subject: Sea & Sea USA is loosing potential sales of camera lens and filters as well as potential customers and disappointing them.

Dear Sir;

This letter has the intention to bring to you some facts that I believe you are not aware of.

I think that Sea & Sea USA should have changed the item’s code when it suspended the imports of the “#38101 Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon WP_DC300”, instead of suspending the imports of “#58060 Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon WP_DC100”.

The fact which led me to believe Sea & Sea made this huge mistake is: “Canon stopped manufacturing the Digital Camera Ixus_300 (S300 Elph) and it’s proper Waterproof Case WP-DC100, but it still produces the Digital Cameras PowerShot S30, S40, S45, S50 and the most important, all this four cameras fit in Waterproof Case WP_DC300, which is also being produced.”

This fact is leading Sea & Sea USA to loose potential sales of MM II Wide Angle lens, MM II Macro lens, filters, potential customers and market share for the competitor INON.

I’m positive there is a great deal of complains about that. It is easy to confirm by checking the uncountable web forums about this matter.

I hope this advice helps.

Best regards,

Joao Alfredo Andreoli

I have to agree that Sea and Sea seems to want to shoot itself in the foot, but maybe I don't understand their marketing strategy.
I put big $$ into MM IIEX back in '97, including macro and WA lenses. I've been playing with video for a couple of years, and now want to do stills again, with digital, without a huge outlay and using the lenses I have---so I'm looking at their conversion lens adapters for Sony, Canon, etc., preferring to stick with Sonys as I have the memory sticks, readers, familiarity, etc. from other Sony cameras/ camcorders. (I can also get a discount from my LDS as they are a S & S dealer).
I called S&S to find out which (if any) adapter goes with the new Sony P8 and P10, as they have two different ones for prior P* series. The person who "helped" me said she didn't know, and had no inclination to find out. All she did was push their DX 3000 housing (OK if you already have MX10 lenses) with its Ricoh camera, which frankly sounds inferior to the Sonys and Canons.
My LDS isn't thrilled with the helpfulness of S&S either.

I understood that Canon threw some type of fit..and this was the reason that Sea&Sea was backing off of the adaptors for the housings etc....

Anyone else hear this?

Cheers,

What kinda fit did Canon throw?? Care to elaborate/share with us?

As far as I know, Canon does not manufacture the adapters/filters for the underwater casings, so what's the big fuss?

They should be happy that Sea&sea/Inon are doing sometin about it!!

In any event, I think that Canon just needs to look at their marketing strategy again instead of just manufacturing the underwater casing without the necessary accessories.!!

I have been searching high and low looking for suitable accessories for my WP-DC-300 casing and just when I found a potential candidate, I find out that it has been discontinued!!!!!!!!

Sheesh!:mean:

Dear Oceanlover,
I have a Canon Powershot S45 with WP-DC300 huosing and
I'm looking for Sea and Sea #38101 lens adapter too! Did you find it?

dear plutozz

Did you try inon lenses?

I have a Canon Powershot S45 with WP-DC300 housing and sea&sea DX-25 strobe ,tray, arm and fiberoptic cable system.

I did'nt find #38101 lens adapter too! and I give up the sea&sea lenses...

I looking for inon, but live in Turkey and I have to buy from internet(from usa or japan..) so I have not chance to examine those item...

Is the Inon M67 mount fits with the Sea & Sea base stay and fiber optic cable? because inon base tray looks diferent..

Can anyone give me advice? pleaseeee....

thanks

anemon

Hi anemon,
I haven't tried the gear yet. My scheduled next dive is on the end of this month ( fingers crossed ).

I think M67 should fit on the housing WP-DC300, but you can email Yuzo ( see my previous post ) to be exact.

I don't have no idea bout the quality of Inon lenses ( AD lenses ) compared to Sea&Sea ones, but you can use inon topside whereas S&S can't. Many people says that S&S should give you better results as they are purposely designed to be use underwater. Thanks...

dear plutozz,
Yuzo is a realy great guy!
I hope I'll solve my problems...

thanks for advice :)
have a nice dive

I had heard rumors that Sea & Sea was going to start producing the adapter for the Canon WP-DC300 again, so I e-mailed them a couple weeks ago to find out if that was true. They e-mailed me the next day and said they were producing it, but it probably wouldn't be available until November. I decided to go ahead and have my LDS order it for me so as soon as they were available I would hopefully get one. Well it just came in today, so it only took a little over 2 weeks to get! So for everyone out there still searching....have your LDS order it for you. They are still using the same product number #38101 and it was around $61.
