I have an SD870 IS and need a little advise Ikelite housing or canon, I know the Ikelite has a better depth rating, and it also appears to be a much sturdier casing, are there any drawbacks to this unit,on the Ikelite site it says that the included flash
diffuser improves lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used. A portion of the camera's flash may be blocked by the lens port of the housing, resulting in a dark shaded area in the photo. For best results an external underwater strobe is recommended. I intend to get a strobe as soon as finances allow, but till then I'd like to use the on board flash, anybody have any experience with the ikelite housing and the SD870, the canon housing information gives no indication of a dark shaded area in the photo's due to the flash being blocked, also I plan to do the CHDK download so I'll be able to use RAW format, will that help to clear up any dark area that may occur?

I've got the 870IS along with the Canon housing and have absolutely no complaints. I've had it down below 100ft, not leaks, no problems. The Canon housing has great access to all the camera's controls and was really easy to use.

The camera's internal flash is pretty useless unless you are right on top of the subject, but I didn't notice any dark spots in the pics I took with it.

1\ canon housings includes flash diffuser; do not dive without it.
2 raw has nothing to do with lighting; exposure is something you control during shooting not after.

:Dthanks guys, I've gone ahead and ordered the Ikelite housing, it just seems like a more sustantial case, right now I'm still learning all the stuff you can do with this camera as it comes from the factory, soon to be adding the RAW format.
thanks again

I also have the canon housing and had no shadows or dark spots and I am pretty happy. My guess is that the closer you get to a subject the more the shadow with ikelite's housing becomes a problem. I would say the only advantage of ikelite is modularity--as far as I know you cannot put wide angle lenses on the cannon housing. That is not an issue yet though because I also first need to get a strobe and then start worrying about special lenses, plus the SD870 already has 28 mm.
