Is there any noticable difference between using a SD and a SDHC card in a P&S camera? I am far from a computer expert and was curious if there were any advantages/disadavantages of either media?

Some of the older cameras are not compatible with SDHC (check your user manual). Other than that, the card should work, but you'll have larger capacity cards with SDHC.

The SD specification only officially recognizes up to 2 gig cards; the SDHC can go much larger.

SDHC comes in class 2, class 4 and class 6, where each higher number is supposed to provide a faster data transfer rate (unfortunately, often a higher price, too). Class 4 seems to be pretty mainstream. It's my understanding faster cards are sometimes chosen for higher end cameras, or for some who plan to shoot video (I don't know the details on that).
