Well, I plan on buying a scubapro x-tek, just not sure if I want a pure or comfort yet. Been diving a diverite rec for the past couple of years, and was diving a halcyon prior to it. I like scubapro gear. Purchasing an A700 black tech reg in the near future, and one of the shops I DM for is a scubapro platinum dealer.

SP regulators are among the favorites for tech divers. In the past, the SP Tec wing and harness was very popular. This is not the first time Scuba Pro has catered to tech divers.

Way back in the 90's SP had a harness/wing identical to the first DR Transpac. We know DR does not make wings in-house. A company called sonoform(now owned by SP) made the wings and harness. Another good company in SoCal named Seatec does quite a bit for "other" manufacturers. I've had the behind the scenes tour and it's impressive to see them cut fabric for 50 BCD's at the same time. Injection moulding is in-house also. Elbows and power inflators on demand. One deformed, just throw it back in the pot of molten plastic. Made in the USA by folks with handicaps. Win.win.

I will have to wait and see what their prices are like and see what the rig looks like when mine comes in, but I will most likely go SP for my rental kits. If they are insanely expensive, I'll most likely push DR to sell, since my profit margin will be a little better. My SP rep might not be to excited about that, but at least I'll keep him happy with the rentals.
As far as the reps at DEMA, I don't know who was there when you were, but my rep, Fraser is a GUE, IANTD, TDI, and NACD instructor.... I'd say he's pretty tech savvy...

just saw the price list...not too excited. the black a700 is ridiculously expensive. the wings an harnesses aren't too terrible, though.

Not yet. If they sell service kits to divers it might catch on. Otherwise the tech community will just say screw it. Wonder if they will price along the same lines as other gear or overprice it like all their other stuff. If you are a Dive Rite dealer and want to continue to get tech business stay with DR.

Huh? Really?

yes, the plates are halcyon. yes, the reps at dema were clueless about tech in general, and woefully clueless about sidemount. you guessed it, i won't be buying any.

Reps are just that... Reps. Believe it or not... most of the reps for big companies I know aren't tech divers.
