There I was about to jump in the water on the Duane this past Sunday, went to put my reg in my mouth and there's this 2-3 in metal pin drooping off to one side and the back plastic flap falling apart. I lined it all back up and re-inserted the pin but a) is this normal and b) has someone come up with a better way of securing this so that it doesn't fall apart when I'm not looking ? The reg only has about 50 dives on it. Thanks.

That is the first one I have heard about so it is not common.

Normally there is enough tension created between the cover and body to create an effective friction fit. To remove the cover you normally need to press the pin out with a long allen wrench.

If your pin is loose for some reason, you could possibly tack it in place with a bit of rubber cement. It would then still be removeable if you ever need to replace the exhaust valve.

Alternatively you could put a very very slight curve in the pin to increase the friction when it is installed to hold it in place. But bend it too much and you will end up needing a new pin. A very slight tweak is all that would be required.

The hole in the plastic exhaust cover (where the pin slide through) may, for one reason or another, be too large to tension the pin and the cover may need to be replaced. Have it checked by a tech before you use it again.
