Tomorrow I will be attending a SP Regulator Clinic in New Orleans. Anyone else ever attend one of these? This is my first one and I was just curious of what to expect and should I bring anything?

Haven't been to one. Good luck.
Please tell us about it later.
By the way, I used to live in NO. Who is hosting it and where is it being held?

Bring a cushion for your butt if you are doing more than the intro course. They can be long days depending on how many are in the class.

Really good class though, I did mine about a year ago. You don't need to bring anything really, maybe a couple colors of pens if you want colored diagrams that you make yorself, but most of it is in the handouts.

If I reacall correctly, on the first day we went over MK2 and Mk25 1st stages and the corresponding seconds (R2/395, S600, G250V) and either the Air2 or the Mk11. I did the two day course so I don't remember which ones were covered which day though. If you have ever tinkered with a reg at all, go ahead and do the two days if you can. It's worth the extra time and cost IMO.

Oh, and bring a bag for all the swag they give out.

Chris

It's being held at the Hilton Garden Inn on Gravier St. in the CBD. Tuesday is Intro, Wednesday is Pro, and Thursday is Expert. Intro covers MK2/R295/R395, BPIs, Air2s, O.P. release valves, hoses, and swivels. Pro covers MK11/17/25/S600/S555/G250V/A700. Expert covers vintage regs.

Unfortunately, due to work and school schedules, I am only going to be able to attend the Intro on Tuesday. I really wanted to also attend the Pro session, but it's just not going to work out. I'll have to get it next time around.

I have observed and assisted with my own regs service before (MK2/R190, MK25/G250V, MK3/HP108, AIR2) but I'm wanting to get certified so I can help out with the shop's rental gear and customer service.

If Rene Dupre is teaching it you got it made. Just pay attention to the little details that he gives you. Write down your questions and make sure you get them answered. If you have questions that you want to ask but are embarrased that people will thnik you are such a rookie, then ask him during the break.

The first part of SP workshop is all about basics. You won;t work on the the Balanced 2nd stages and the MK25/ MK 20. The pro sections also covers old regs. I ahve been owrkingo n their regs for a while so I am familiar with most of them. Remember one thing, Scubapro blazed the trail for the Balanced Flow Through piston, everyody else out there that claims they know balanced pistons learned it from SP, the same thing will be said about the balanced 2nd stage.

Have fun and learn.

Does anyone have a schedule for when these might be happening elsewhere? Sounds like something right up my alley.

Please don't miss out the midnight session on the secret handshake protocol. Document it with all the details and publish it right here! :D

While you are there, please ask them why they cannot also design their regs to only require service every 300 dives or two years like Atomic.

Scott,

I know you're aware of this already, but for the others who are popping in: All regulators are designed to last a couple of years between annual service if taken care of properly. The "annual service" is simply a money making scheme where the manufacture hold the owner's warranty hostage so the LDS can fleece the consumer. Eschew the warranty. Take care of your gear, learn to check it yourself or better yet, learn to service it yourself.

Parzdiver,

Unless things have changed, ScubaPro requires an affiliation with a dive shop if one wants to attend their service course.

NAUIwowee, have fun in your class....but don't tell them what we discuss here.....it's top secret. :D

I figured. I am close enough with my LDS that I could probably swing it. They would then probably put me to work, which they do when I'm in there shopping anyway. I unofficially work for discounts. :D
