Does anyone has any experience with this reel?:

http://www.scubaproasiapacific.com/product_detail.asp?catid=6&prodid=369

I am looking to get a reel with about 80-100 meter of lines. I would prefer a spool but can't find one that has lines of that length. This Scubapro reel looks pretty neat to me but don't know how well it will actually work. Any comments? Or does anyone has some good recommendations????

Thanks a ton!!!

It depends what you plan to do with it.

If it is designed for towing a dive flag it will work fine. However if you are planning to penetrate wrecks etc, it has the potential for the line to jump the edge of the spool and jam the reel.

Actually all reels have this potential and for techical diving purposes you need one with a spool that is easily removeable underwater without tools so that you can clear the jam and continue to use the reel.

This one does not meet that requirement as it will require a screwdriver to remove the reel (and you will also most likely lose parts in the process.)

I have always been happy with reels made by Reef Scuba.

Why would you "prefer a spool" with 80-100 metres of line?

What Vie said. Assuming you want that much line because you are going to need it, winding 80 - 100 meters of line onto a spool would suck. I would much rather be cranking a reel. Like DA, I like the Reef reel I have for its design. I also use a Halcyon reel which though of a different design is also not so prone to jamming. I use only the Halcyon for cave diving, both for wreck diving.

I would prefer to use a spool for the minimal jamming possibility (that's what I been told). Not a spool with 80-100 meter of line. And I can imagine how it would suck having a spool with that much line on it.

I am looking to get a reel so is looking around. Hopefully to get something not too bulky. How's the Halcyon 400ft reel?

One thing I normally do is strip off about 1/4 of the line that comes on the reel. If you leave it full, it is much more prone to hopping over the edge of the reel and jamming during use.

I have one of those reels and I took about half the line it comes with off.
When they say the alloy frame cannot be deformed under any conditions dont believe it.I bent my frame on a live aboard,I have the reel clipped off onto the lower right side of my bcd (scubapro glide 2000) and when I went to stand up from the bench seat after donning my kit it got caught on the underside of bench and bent.
I was able to dismantle when I got home and straighten it out with hammers and vice.
Aside from that I have not had any problems with it jamming even after it being bent.
I find it comfortable in either left or right hand.
