I just completed my AOW and will be starting rescue soon. I’ve been slowly piecing together my first kit off market place and I got great deals on both regulators. I only scored one of the XT2s but two of the A700s. I plan on trying both setups at some point, but just wondering what yall think would be the best 1st stage and then should I run two A700s or put the XT2 in as my primary or octo?

I suggest you keep the brands together, it will help with servicing, unless you do your own. It also makes tuning simpler. I am not an expert, but my thoughts. I recommend the SP because that is what I know. The MK25 is bullet proof and serviceable around the world.

Scubapro. Ditch the suicide clip on your A700 and install a proper boltsnap.

For me, Dive Rite. Keep in mind these are two fundamentally different designs in the 1st stage. Having a sealed diaphragm is important to me, it isn't to others. You have to decide based upon your needs. But both are outstanding regulators.

Look closer, it is a bolt snap, just not the type we normally use.

Still BAD! Easy to get caught on thin line, ask me how I know that. I was so pissed with it, I took a huge hammer and destroyed it after the dive. This happened many years ago but never forgotten it.

The SP is by far a better reg. That is coming from someone that has a hard time recommending anything but DR regs. They are just a sweet spot in the cost/functionality/servicability matrix. But If I were to pick one or the other as a better reg, SP every time.

Unless you are diving in an environment where a diaphragm excels over a piston, or are planning on self servicing. In that case the DR is a better option.
