Newbie questions:

I just bought a setup from LeisurePro with the Scubapro MK2 1st stage and regulator. Removing the dustcap, I expected to see a screen in the opening of the first stage. There is not one there. Is this normal?

Also, they mounted the octopus hose above the regulator hose. My dive class taugh us to reach up and grab the top hose to retrieve a regulator. Is mine a non-standard setup or is it acceptable to mount them in either position?

thx, yak

I would check with someone to make sure whether the screen is there or not.

There is no "standard" way to rig a regulator system...some work better than others. There is no reason you cannot change the position of the hoses if you so choose.

Scubapro uses a conical filter in the 1st stage. Look carefully below filter keeper (star). If it's not there, call liesurepro. You need to have it in place.:boom:

Looking down inside the opening, it looks like a cone of braided wire - I was expecting the flat screen that I saw on the stuff I've rented in the past.

It doesn't look like a great setup for keeping particles out of the opening.

If I want to swap the hose positions, there's nothing special to removing/replacing them, right? Any suggestions on how tight the fittings should be?

First, the conical screen is FAR better. Why? More surface area. Which, by the way, is the "whole deal" when it comes to filters. SP by the way has gone to the "spun-wire-style" filter rather than the sintered screen-style material recently. What you have is normal and perfectly fine (and also OE!)

The hoses should be finger tight and then snugged up with a wrench just a bit. DO NOT overtighten them. The seal is made with the O-ring, NOT physical tightness - all tightening them does is keep it from backing off on you while in use. Its trivial to change them to whichever ports you want to use.

If you have a torque wrench around, go measure (on something else) what 5 newton/metres - 44 inch/pounds feels like. That's exactly the amount of torque you should apply to the hose fittings.
